--May is "Older Americans Month".  At the time Older Americans Month was officially established, approximately 17 million living Americans had reached their 65th birthday that year--in 1963.  According to the Census Bureau's 2015 American Community Survey Michigan has more 10 percent more families with seniors in their households (with at least one age 60 household member or older in age) then they have families with children.  The data and results were released back in 2016, however, CENSUS 2020 is coming and once those results are in we will once again see where those numbers fall or whether this remains true or not in Michigan.  In the meantime, May is the time to recognize the many contributions of Older Americans, especially in Michigan.
