June 4, 2019

Michigan Attorney General (AG) Dana Nessel joins Bipartisan Letter Requesting Funding for Legal Services Corp (LSC).  The Legal Services Corporation, established in 1974 by Congress, the LSC is a nonprofit organization that provides funding to 132 independent nonprofit legal aid programs domestically.

“Legal Services Corporation has been vital to ensuring the accessibility of justice for individuals who, despite their hard work, face challenges to make ends meet,” said Nessel. “These are Americans from every background and age; however, 70 percent are women fighting to keep their families out of harm's way. Without this funding, tens of thousands of Michiganders may not receive the support they need and deserve.”

The bipartisan alliance that includes 41 other attorneys general sent a letter to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate Committees on Appropriations requesting Fiscal Year 2020 funding considerations for the Legal Services Corporation.
