Ingham County & Cooley Law 60+ Elderlaw Clinic Partner for Estate Planning Seminars for Community

Ingham County, Mich. – The Ingham County Treasurer’s Office is hosting Estate Planning Seminars throughout Ingham County. Register of Deeds Derek Quinney, Ryan Buck of the Ingham County Probate Court, and attorney Dustin Foster from the 60+ Clinic will all be presenting valuable estate planning information, with time at the end for questions. They will be discussing how to navigate the Probate Court, planning for future needs, how to protect their property for their loved ones in the future, etc. These County departments are joining together to make these resources more accessible to anyone and every one it would benefit.

There is a growing issue in Ingham County of properties being left in decedents’ names, sometimes for years, with no further action from their next of kin, if there is one. This is one of the reasons why we feel educating the community about their options is so important. We especially want to reach out to seniors on fixed incomes, that may not have access to this type of information otherwise.

Following the seminars, we will be hosting two Deed Clinics. At these events, the seminar attendees, who have decided to make changes to their deeds, can come and register the new deeds with the Register of Deeds Office. At the first of these clinics, on Oct. 5th, we will have brief speeches ahead of time, with the Chief Probate Judge, Hon. Shauna Dunnings, Treasurer Alan Fox, and Register of Deeds Derrick Quinney. I will send out additional press invites to you for that date as well.

We already held a smaller Estate Planning Seminar in August at the Allen Neighborhood Center, which was a great success. “We partnered with Ingham County for a seminar in August and, because that went over well, we’ve added two more seminars to help people 60 and over develop an estate plan that meets their individual needs and goals,” said Dustin Foster. We look forward to getting the word out about these next events and working with you to do so. Below there are additional date/location details and contact info for all departments if you wish to speak to any of them ahead of time or outside of the actual events.
