The City of Lansing has issued a city-wide ban on open burning due to dry conditions and prolonged lack of rain effective immediately. The ban is in effect until June 30, 2023, but could be extended depending on forecasted weather conditions. The burning ban encompasses all open burning, including bonfires in outdoor fireplaces/fire pits or any other recreational fires anywhere within the City of Lansing. The Lansing Fire Department announced yesterday that no new outdoor burn permits will be issued until further notice. “Lansing residents need to do their part to keep homes and neighborhoods safe from fires,” Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant stated. “Extremely dry weather conditions across Michigan have resulted in large, preventable fires.” Violations of the burning ban are a misdemeanor. Residents are reminded to always be aware of your surroundings and call LFD with any fire related concerns, to report a fire, or dial 911 in case of emergency.
