Updated: Oct 30, 2022

LANSING-- Founding Co-Director of The Firecracker Foundation (TFF), Tashmica Torok has been awarded an Opportunity Collaboration (OC) Fellowship Award which will give her access to a global network of leaders dedicated to building sustainable solutions to poverty and injustice at the OC 2022 Conference in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on September 25, 2020. Selected from hundreds of applicants, Mx. Torok has been honored by OC as one of fifty exceptional social entrepreneurs and high impact nonprofit leaders from five continents. “At the core of The Firecracker Foundation's mission is culture work that changes the conditions that allows child sexual abuse to occur in the first place,” said Mx. Torok. “As an OC 2022 Fellow, I am excited to learn from an international community of innovative people inspiring global change and to bring those learnings home to the community we serve.” Thanks to the generosity of TFF funder, Focus for Health Foundation, CoDirectors Carolyn Abide and Tara Scott-Miller will also attend the convening in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic to enhance their collective ability to fully benefit from this remarkable opportunity. “I am looking forward to making connections with people working around the world to create and affect change in their communities and to share those experiences with my fellow CoDirectors,” said Mx. Carolyn Abide. “I am hopeful that these relationships and resources will give us new and creative ways of approaching the work of healing from child sexual abuse that our clients, their families and our communities are doing.” The OC is a 4-day convening that features a range of participatory programs for the TFF CoDirectors to showcase the mission of TFF on a global stage. The collaborative summit event is uniquely designed to foster critical alliances between fellow Delegates as thought partners in advancing their collective social impact initiatives. Mx. Torok’s application was supported by colleague and friend Tabitha Mpamira of the EDJA FOUNDATION and Naomi Walston of TFF’s funding organization WomenStrong International. The selection committee includes past Delegates with expertise in both geographic and sector foci, as well as a deep knowledge and understanding of the culture and mission of Opportunity Collaboration. About The Firecracker Foundation TFF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has a trusted history of providing healing services to children between the ages of 3-18 who are survivors of sexual violence and their families.
