Natural Born Leader

Mr. Jeffery S. Benson is a Lansing native with a lifestyle that clearly depicts success. He was born and raised in Lansing Michigan and has two brothers and four sisters. Jeff is a graduate of Lansing Everett High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting as well as his MBA (Master of Business Administration) from Michigan State University. While working on his undergraduate degree he also earned his CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification.

Faith in God, career success and service to others was instilled in him at a young age. He was inspired by his father who pushed him to strive for overall success. As far back as he can remember Jeff recalls his love for saving money. He possessed a knack in the area of finance that was utilized by tutoring other students while still in high school. He wrote the vision and set his sights on becoming the president of a company. After reviewing Jeff’s background it is clear that he has stayed true to his goals. Jeff is currently President/CEO of CASE (Capital Area School Employees) Credit Union a $275 million financial institution serving over 42,000 members. His responsibilities include overseeing the entire operations of the Credit Union. In addition to his daily job responsibilities Jeff also works on a number of community service initiatives within CASE CU. He is heavily involved in a Community Activity Committee which focuses on giving back to a local charity each quarter. This includes local charities such as the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Loaves and Fishes and the Association for Children’s Mental Health to name a few. Over the past three years the amount of funds raised by CASE CU employees for various local charities has exceeded $50,000. This figure does not include the yearly community scholarships awarded local to high school and college students in the Lansing Area.

Outside of work Jeff dedicates his time to various professional organizations, which include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Black Accountants, CUNA Lending Council, and Rotary International. In addition, Jeff currently serves as an board member and /or officer on several boards in the Greater Lansing community which include Sparrow Health Systems (a Mayo Clinic Affiliate), Lansing Community College Foundation and Ele’s Place for Grieving Children. He also serves on two state boards which include Michigan Credit Union League and the Michigan Association of United Ways and two national boards, National Children’s Center in Washington, DC and Public Health Foundation Enterprises (PHFE) in City of Industry, CA. Furthermore, Jeff has been a frequent speaker at various local, regional and national conferences and taught several accounting related classes at Lansing Community College. He has been listed in several publications of Who’s Who in America and serves as CFO and Trustee at Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit, MI. In his personal time Jeff loves to read, travel, roller skate and watch MSU sports.

It is clear that Mr. Jeffrey S. Benson is a natural born leader with a heart dedicated to service and excellence. He is truly an asset to the Lansing Community and it is clear that Jeff will continue to excel in the areas of Faith, Community and Career.
