Inside the life of Scott Wriggelsworth Ingham County Sherriff

I have twenty-three years of law enforcement experience with the East Lansing Police Department, five months as the elected Ingham County Sheriff and served six years on the Holt Public School Board of Education. I am a 1988 graduate of Holt Public Schools, 1992 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in marketing, and 2006 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Va.

I willingly spent 2 nights at the Ingham County Jail, 9 days into my tenure as Sheriff. This experience garnered me great perspective, both on the work the deputies do day in and day out, as well as from an inmate’s point of view. How it feels to have your freedom taken from you, and the daily challenges that presents for people.

My wife Melissa (Lansing Public Schools teacher) and I live in Holt. We have 4 children, Tom 18, Grace 15, Claire 13, and Jake 13.In my spare time I enjoy physical fitness, and anything sports related.

I am really enjoying my new role in law enforcement as the Sheriff. I feel we have re-energized the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office. We are empowering people to think big, be creative, and be willing to embrace the challenges of both corrections and law enforcement in 2017. Time, is the greatest gift anyone can give another person. Township assigned deputies, the BAU (Behavioral Assessment Unit) and increased operational efficiencies are just a few of the successes we have had already in a short 5 months in office. We look forward to building on our strengths, minimizing any weaknesses, and making Ingham County a better place to live, work, and play.
