LCC to host milestone Police Academy graduation

Lansing, Mich. – On Friday, Dec. 15 the Police Academy of Lansing Community College is set to host its fall graduation. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the Conference Center at LCC’s West Campus as 19 new police recruits will graduate.

The ceremony will mark 100 years of graduates from the Mid-Michigan Police Academy, and 60 years of recruits from the LCC Police Academy program.

Police Academy Director Andy Lindeman says the 17-week Mid-Michigan Police Academy offered in the fall and spring each year provides students with more than 700 hours of training. “This far surpasses the state mandated 594 hours.”

Students at LCC utilize state of the art equipment and receive training from certified instructors that work in the local law enforcement community. Upon completion of the course recruits meet the requirements for a number of tactical skills including the use of firearms, emergency vehicle operation, subject control; and academic areas like criminal law and criminal procedures. Academy recruits receive additional training to recognize crimes like elder abuse and human trafficking.

Lindeman says during the past 100 years there have been over 2300 graduates that have completed the program. LCC graduates from the Police Academy account for a majority of the region’s police personnel, including Command Level officers with City of Lansing Police Department, East Lansing Police Department, Eaton County and Ingham County Sheriff’s Departments, Meridian Township Police Department, and LCC Police Department Director Bill French and Lt. Rod Bahl.
