Gov. Whitmer makes a Historic Appointment to the state's Highest Court

For the State of Michigan, it’s a first – a black woman has been named to serve on the Supreme Court.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced yesterday that she has chosen Kyra Harris Bolden, a lawyer, and State Representative from Southfield, to replace retiring Justice Bridget McCormack, on the state’s highest court.

The 34-year-old Bolden will be the youngest member of the court. She could serve there for more than three decades because, in Michigan, justices can seek reelection until they reach age 70.
