Leading with A Servant’s Heart

Born and raised in the heart of Lansing,

Yanice Carter- Jackson is a devoted resident of the capitol city. A proud Sexton High School graduate she earned both her Bachelors of Science in Broadcast Journalism and Master of Business Administration in Marketing before returning to Lansing with the intent of making a positive impact on the community. She felt this could best be achieved by running for an At Large seat on the City Council. Yanice is adamant that she is a "public servant not a politician", therefore leads with a servant's heart. Currently the Managing Editor of the Chronicle Newspaper as well as a single mother to her daughter Jillian.

Yanice is also active in civic and faith-based organizations, and is currently studying for her Master of Divinity in Pastoral Studies. Yanice chose to venture into the political space after working as a Regional Organizing Director for Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016. Recognizing the ins and outs of the movement and listening to the concerns of the constituents on the campaign trail touched her heart and she became sensitive to the needs of the people. When the dust had settled, Yanice realized there was more work to be done and she was the woman for the job. When asked, "Why You? Why Now"? Yanice has a simple response "Everybody deserves a seat at the table; everyone has a voice that needs to be heard; everyone needs someone fighting for them...that’s what I will do. I'm an advocate for the people" Her platform is easy to understand. Help get South Lansing back to its glory days where homeowners and business took pride in their surroundings. Yanice desires to support the Lansing School District to help increase enrollment and strategize about economic growth and employment city wide. She favors a regulated as needed-based cannabis market. Yanice is also focused on policies that will make our neighborhoods safer. On record when asked how she would tackle the enormity of the task before her, She smiled and confidently and stated, "With GOD all things are possible"
