On January 25, 2018, Zita Pearsall, one of McLaren Greater Lansing’s volunteers will be turning 100 years old. Pearsall has been volunteering with McLaren Greater Lansing since 2000.

“A friend of mine had suggested that I look into volunteering for McLaren Greater Lansing,” Pearsall said. “I am really glad I did, it’s a very nice place to volunteer.”

After almost 20 years of volunteering Pearsall has put in more than 1,500 hours at the hospital. She started in clerical work; however, after some time a spot opened up in the hospital’s gift shop and she changed roles.

“I thought that the gift shop would be a great fit for me,” Pearsall said. “Everyone is so friendly and I have the chance to meet many different people. It really makes my day interesting.”

Pearsall is looking forward to spending her 100th birthday cruising to Cancun, Mexico where she plans to enjoy the warm weather with her family.

“I have been blessed with good health,” Pearsall said. “I am so glad that I am able to give back.”

Most volunteer service areas ask for at least four hours per week, or four hours every other week, however, many volunteers at McLaren Greater Lansing contribute more than 150 hours per year.
