MSU Music presents 18th annual Cello Plus Chamber Music Festival

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The MSU College of Music presents the 18th annual Cello Plus Chamber Music Festival Wednesday, Apr. 11-15 in MSU Auditorium’s Fairchild Theatre. The festival will consist of three concerts spanning five days and will feature guest artists from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, members of the Camerata Michigan ensemble, and MSU faculty artists, led by Professor of Cello Suren Bagratuni, artistic director of Cello Plus.

“I’m always amazed with the energy and spirit of collaboration our guests and faculty offer every year,” says Bagratuni. “It brings me great joy and satisfaction to be a part of this annual chamber music tradition, with all its unique programming and extraordinary instrumental combinations, I look forward to sharing it with our patrons every year.”

Wednesday, April 11

DSO at MSU

7:30 p.m. Fairchild Theatre, MSU Auditorium

In partnership with the renowned Detroit Symphony Orchestra, this first concert in the series of three joins five principal string players from the DSO with MSU’s Suren Bagratuni, cello. The program will consist of major string sextet works by Brahms.

Friday, April 13

Strings and Choir

8 p.m. Fairchild Theatre, MSU Auditorium

MSU faculty and students join with the University Chorale and members of the Camerata Michigan ensemble to present a concert of chamber music. Works include Bach’s Cello Suite and Motet Jesu Meine Freude, Mozart’s Veni Sancte, and Triptych by Tarik O’Regan.

Sunday, April 15

Chamber Music Gems

3 p.m. Fairchild Theatre, MSU Auditorium

MSU artist-faculty members and Detroit Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Yoonshin Song perform select chamber music works. This concert will include two hauntingly beautiful pieces by Grammy-nominated Armenian composer Tigran Mansourian as well as Tchaikovsky’s celebrated Piano Trio, featuring the DSO’s Song with MSU piano faculty-artist Margarita Shevchenko.

This concert is generously sponsored by Stanley and Selma Hollander; Nancy and Charlie Seebeck.

Tickets for reserved seating of each performance are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 60 and older), $5 for students with ID and anyone under age 18, and can be purchased online, or at the door prior to the event.
