Dorothy Haywood-Horton, 80, passed away in Jackson, Michigan on September 12, 2026. She was born on January 3, 1946, to the late James Lee Haywood and Bessie Mae (Christian) Haywood.


Dorothy was preceded in passing by her husband; son, Johnathan Haywood; parents, James Lee and Bessie Mae Haywood; siblings, Shirley Haywood, Leona Haywood, Robert Haywood, Louis Haywood, and James Haywood.


She is survived by her children, Tonya (Henry) Johnson-Walker, and William Pulliam; brother, Frederick Haywood; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.


Dorothy was raised in church and received Jesus into her life at an early age, carrying her faith with her throughout her life. A proud resident of Gary, Indiana, Dorothy was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. She later worked at the Bethlehem Steel Mill for many years. Dorothy truly enjoyed life and all the wonderful experiences it had to offer. She loved traveling, especially to two of her favorite destinations, Jamaica and the Bahamas. She also enjoyed bowling, listening to music, dancing and making memories with those around her. Among her favorite adventures were attending Soul Train cruises. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


To honor Dorothy’s life, a service will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026 beginning at 11:00am with Bishop Nathaniel Thomas officiating. The family hour will be from 10:00am until the time of the service. Interment at Woodland Cemetery.
