State and local officials gathered on June 30th for a ribbon cutting to open an extension of the Lansing River Trail along the Grand River on Moores River Dr near Frances Park. The project, funded by the DNR's 'Trust Fund Grant' and the Ingham County Parks and Trails Millage, helps to further connect Lansing's trail system and create more accessible outdoor spaces designated to promote fitness in the city.

The pre-expansion trail map outlining the existing Frances Park and Moores River area is below; the new (non-motorized) path extends trail from Cambridge Rd, west down the Grand River and south to Waverly Rd. Now you can enjoy the water for a bit longer stretch during your walk or bike time, with improved access to south side locations where the extension ends, just shy of Jolly Rd.

The trail expansion has created another 2 plus miles of area to walk, run, bike, wheel or stroll! The chosen location has also helped expand trail access on the Southwest end of Lansing, with the primary trail access historically located on the South and East sides of town. Check it out when time permits, along with these resource links for best local trail mapping.
