Jasmine was a 13-year-old student at Waverly Middle School who tragically lost her life in a pedestrian-automobile accident while walking home from school on May 13, 2003. The Jasmine Star Miles Memorial Scholarship was established as a desire to reflect the vibrant light and love of Jasmine to a deserving college bound graduating senior in the Lansing Area based on community service, leadership, citizenship, and scholarship. The JSM Foundation proudly boasts awarding over 20 Scholarships to deserving college-bound

students since its inception in 2005.

The highlight of the committee's work was demonstrated in the passage of State of Michigan legislation, The Jasmine Miles Schoolchildren Safety Act, [HB5094]; lovingly shepherded by the Late Honorable State Representative, Reverend Michael C. Murphy; and signed into law by Governor Jennifer Granholm in the fall of 2004.
