My heart is full. On June 6, 2026, The Chronicle News celebrated its 40th Anniversary Legacy Gala at Lansing Community College, bringing together generations of community leaders, supporters, friends, family members, readers, advertisers, vendors, and community partners for an evening centered around a simple but powerful theme: Life, Love and Legacy.

What began in 1986 as a vision by my parents, Larry “Jay Price” Carter and Carolyn Carter, has grown into a trusted community institution that continues to inform, uplift, and connect residents throughout Greater Lansing and beyond. As I looked around the room that evening, I was reminded that The Chronicle’s story has never been about one person. It has always been about community.

The evening was filled with powerful moments of reflection, celebration, and inspiration. Guests enjoyed heartfelt tributes, outstanding performances, community recognition, and opportunities to reconnect with individuals who have helped shape our region over the last four decades. The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, fellowship, and gratitude.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was the official launch of the Chronicle Kids community coloring book, I Know I Can: Real People. Real Careers. Real Possibilities. Created to inspire young people to dream boldly while introducing them to local leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and community changemakers, the project received an overwhelming response. Every available copy sold during the event, reaffirming the community’s commitment to investing in the next generation.

The Legacy Gala also served as a reminder that community support remains the foundation of everything we do. We are grateful to our sponsors, advertisers, vendors, donors, community partners, and faithful readers who continue to invest in independent community journalism. Your support allows us to tell stories that matter, preserve our history, and amplify voices that deserve to be heard. I was especially moved to see multiple generations gathered together throughout the evening. From longtime supporters who have stood beside The Chronicle for decades to young people experiencing our mission for the very first time, the event demonstrated the power of passing knowledge, history, opportunity, and hope from one generation to the next.

To our vendors, volunteers, performers, speakers, sponsors, photographers, planning team, family, and friends, thank you for helping create an unforgettable experience. Thank you to everyone who attended, purchased tickets, shared our story, donated, encouraged us, and celebrated alongside us. Your presence made the evening truly special.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are not simply looking back, we are looking forward. The next chapter of The Chronicle News will continue to focus on storytelling, literacy, youth development, community engagement, and creating opportunities that strengthen our community for generations to come. Forty years later, the mission remains the same. We are still telling our stories. We are still building community. We are still creating space for voices that deserve to be heard.

Saturday June 6th, 2026 reminded me that legacy is not measured by years alone. Legacy is measured by lives touched, relationships built, opportunities created, and the people who continue to believe in the vision.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping us celebrate 40 years of Life, Love and Legacy. The best is yet to come.

Sincerely,

Yanice Y. Carter
