Lansing Community to honor Dr. Joan Jackson during Back-to-School Tribute

Brotherhood Against Drugs presents Backpack Give-aways

Lansing, MICH. - Brotherhood Against Drugs, in partnership with Vernon Johnson and Family, will present a Community Memorial and Back-to-School Tribute honoring the life and work of Dr. Joan Jackson Johnson. The event will be held at Frances Park, on Sunday, August 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the memorial taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It will take place at Frances Park, located at 2701 Moores River Drive, Lansing, Michigan, 48911.


Dr. Johnson devoted her life to community service through her work as a clinical psychologist and as the Director of Human Relations and Community Services Department of the City of Lansing. She worked tirelessly to help improve the lives of people experiencing poverty, food insecurity and homelessness.


Vern Johnson the husband of Joan better known as triple “stated the one thing about my wife, is that she loved her family and that of giving back to helping with the lives of an underserved population”. Joan enjoyed giving back to the community with her time and resources. The Community Memorial and Back-to-School Tribute is a way to honor and celebrate Dr. Johnson’s life and work, through service to community.


Following the Memorial, the Back-to School Tribute Celebration will provide free backpacks, food, activities, haircuts, fun and more, to children returning to school this Fall. Larry Johnson Founder of Brotherhood Against Drugs stated, “this event is so important to us to serve our community and families, in addition to giving tribute to an amazing individual Dr Joan Jackson Johnson who was always there for us when we called. I
