South Waverly Road in Lansing has been under construction for several months now. The work is close to being finished and the roadway will soon be opened up to two-way traffic.
With that, residents and business owners have been discussing ways to potentially slow down traffic and make the corridor more inviting to businesses and safer for users. To that end, the City of Lansing Public Service Department will be hosting a public open house-style meeting at Fire Station #6 (at the corner of Pleasant Grove Road and Jolly Road) to discuss the potential reconfiguration of Waverly Rd. between Sumpter Street and Sheffield Boulevard.
The proposal includes, among other considerations, reducing the corridor along this stretch from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. The meeting will take place on Thursday, November 10, 2022, and will be open to the public from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. There will not be a formal presentation for this meeting and folks can come anytime during the aforementioned time period.
