Barrett Secures $25 Million for Rural Health Care Modernization

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services today announced a $25 million investment in rural health care in Michigan. The funding comes from the Rural Health Transformation Program, which Congressman Tom Barrett and his colleagues created last year in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.

This $25 million investment will support technology upgrades at rural hospitals and expanded internet service to improve access and help residents get care more easily, conveniently, and affordably. It’s part of the $173 million total Michigan will receive through the Rural Health Transformation Program. The administration previously announced that $70 million of this total will focus on improving health data interoperability, strengthening rural health partnerships, developing the rural healthcare workforce, bringing care closer to home, and supporting Tribal communities across Michigan.

Congressman Barrett’s statement on this investment: “The Rural Health Transformation Program we delivered with the Working Families Tax Cuts Act is investing more than $173 million to help lower costs and improve quality of care for Michiganders in rural communities. The newest $25 million investment will modernize technology and strengthen internet service at our rural hospitals to better connect patients with their health care professionals and deliver more efficient, timely care,” said Rep. Tom Barrett. “I’m eager to see this funding expand health care access for everyone who calls rural mid-Michigan home.”
