New Stew and Boil Base with Easy Open Jar Lid Allows Meijer Shoppers in Lansing to Cook Smarter, Not Harder

Chilau Foods, a line of southern-inspired stew and boil bases, topped with the easy-open EEASY Lid now available to customers in local Meijer store locations

Dayton, Ohio – June 21, 2024 – Picture this: You’re craving warm stew and decide to make some for yourself. You’re feeling excited, but when you go to add your favorite flavor base, you just can’t open the jar.

You’ve tried everything – banging the lid on the counter, running it under hot water – but nothing will work. The jar wins again.

Luckily, for stew lovers in Lansing, stubborn jar lids are a thing of the past.

Consumer Convenience Technologies (CCT) today announces its easy-open EEASY Lid, the first jar lid innovation in nearly 80 years, is available to local Meijer shoppers atop jars of Chilau Foods’ southern-inspired stew and boil bases.

Chilau’s stew and boil bases offer a unique alternative to traditional beef, chicken and vegetable stew flavors, tapping into consumers’ growing desire for bold, ethnic flavor profiles. The EEASY Lid allows consumers to vent a vacuum-sealed jar – think pickles, sauces, olives and more – by simply pressing a button on the lid, reducing the amount of effort needed to twist off the lid by up to 50%. Just push, twist and open – it’s that easy.

Chilau’s flavor bases take the fuss out of food prep e for busy parents, people on the go, and anyone else looking to simplify the cooking experience. Now, the products’ packaging further simplifies time in the kitchen by giving users an easy jar opening experience.

The EEASY Lid is now available on two of Chilau’s flavors – Original Southern Style and Low County Citrus – in more than 250 Meijer grocery stores, including the following Lansing locations:

  • 5125 W. Saginaw Hwy, Lansing, MI, 48917

  • 2055 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI, 48864

  • 2777 Airport Road, Jackson, MI, 49202

  • 1350 W. Lake Lansing Road, East Lansing, MI, 48823

  • 3333 E. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI, 49202

  • 2591 East M21, Corunna, MI, 48817

  • 1167 E. Clinton Trl, Charlotte, MI, 48813

  • 12821 Cross Over Dr., DeWitt, MI, 48820

  • 7157 E. Saginaw St., East Lansing, MI, 48823

  • 2805 West Cheesman Rd., Alma, MI, 48801

  • 6200 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing, MI, 48911

  • 3600 West Carleton Road, Hillsdale, MI, 49242

“People making dinner today want two things – new, bold flavors and ease in the kitchen. The partnership between Chilau Foods and CCT makes that possible,” said Michael Anderson, founder of Chilau Foods. “Meijer shoppers now have the opportunity to try Chilau’s various stew and boil bases without the struggle.”

The EEASY Lid was created when a close friend of a company co-founder underwent surgery for breast cancer. She struggled to open jars following her surgery, and she asked why someone couldn’t design a jar lid that was easier to open. After eight years of trial and error, CCT’s patented EEASY Lid is the first major jar lid innovation in nearly eight decades. Many companies have created gadgets aimed at opening pesky jar lids, but CCT is the first company to have successfully invented a new lid itself.

“Accessible packaging should be the norm, not the exception. The same goes for strong flavor profiles – customers are seeking both in the kitchen,” said Brandon Bach, president of CCT. “Every time the EEASY Lid becomes available on a new store shelf, we are one step closer to achieving our goal of eliminating the perennial jar opening struggle.”

In addition to these stores, the EEASY Lid is currently being used on products in more than 250 Wegmans, Stop & Shop, Price Chopper and Tops Friendly Markets stores in addition to select specialty grocers in the Northeast. The EEASY Lid is also being used on products in EDEKA Kempken stores in Krefeld, Germany.
