The National Christmas Tree is blazing brightly today….a symbol of America’s celebration of the 2022 version of the holiday.
With first lady Jill Biden and ceremony host, TV star/rapper LL Cool J standing with him, President Biden last night upheld a century-old American tradition by leading the lighting of the tree.
Biden delivered brief remarks on American unity and promise, concluding exuberantly as Jill Biden blew a kiss, “From the Biden family to you, Merry Christmas, America!”
This tradition dates back to 1923 when President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a fir tree decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white and green, as a local choir and a quartet from the U.S. Marine Band performed.
The 2022 National Christmas Tree is a 27-foot white fir that was planted just last year.
