Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll Inducted into Michigan Golf Hall of Fame


EAST LANSING -- Michigan State women's golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll joined an elite class of golfers on Saturday, June 3, as she was inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame at Ferris State University's Katke Golf Club.

Slobodnik-Stoll joined PGA Master Professional Bob Ackerman of West Bloomfield, PGA Professional Brian Cairns of Walled Lake, PGA Tour veteran Tom Gillis of Lake Orion, former LPGA Tour player Suzy Green-Roebuck of Ann Arbor, the late Alex Ross, who won the U.S. Open 110 years ago, in the Hall's class of 2017.

The six-member class is the largest in history and brings the total number of members enshrined in the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame to 119.

Slobodnik-Stoll joins Mary Fossum (2002), Joyce Kazmierski (2003), Joan Garety (2005) and Sue Ertl (2010) as fellow Spartans inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

Slobodnik-Stoll is coming off a another successful season as head coach of the Spartans, having led MSU to a Big Ten Championship, a third-place showing the NCAA Athens Regional and a trip to the NCAA Championships. She was also voted Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth time.

In her 20 seasons at Michigan State, Slobodnik-Stoll has led the Spartans to 18 NCAA Regional appearances (1999-2014; 2016-17), 11 trips to the NCAA Championships (2000-03, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012-14, 2017), and six Big Ten titles (2001, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017). In addition, Michigan State has won 35 tournaments during her tenure.

Slobodnik-Stoll's players have earned All-Big Ten honors 43 times, including 27 first-team selections. Four Spartans have been named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year, including Sarah Burnham most recently in 2017.

The Spartans have been equally as successful in the classroom under Slobodnik-Stoll's tutelage. For six consecutive years, the women's golf team has garnered the Athletic Director's Award for achieving the highest team cumulative grade-point average of any MSU varsity athletics program.

As a player, Slobodnik-Stoll is the winningest golfer in Golf Association of Michigan history with 15 titles, including two Michigan Women's Amateur Championships and an unprecedented eight GAM Mid-Amateur wins. She was named the GAM Women's Player of the Decade in 2010.
