Detroit Invited to Move Together at Inaugural Walk & Run for Wellness

DETROIT — Detroit residents are invited to get moving during the inaugural Walk & Run for Wellness on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lasky Recreation Center. The free community event will bring together residents, families and local wellness organizations for an afternoon focused on physical activity, healthy living and connection. Activities will include a two-mile run, one-mile walk, health and wellness resources, food, music and giveaways. Live fitness demonstrations including yoga, Pilates and high-intensity interval training are also planned throughout the event.
The event will also feature an Rx Kids Baby Parade beginning at 11:30 a.m., giving families with babies and young children an opportunity to participate together. Rx Kids expanded into Detroit in 2026 as a program providing financial support to pregnant women and families with infants, adding another family-health connection to the day’s activities. Participants are encouraged to bring strollers and join the parade as part of the community celebration. (Detroit City Government)
The Walk & Run for Wellness is designed for a wide range of participants, including experienced runners, walking groups, fitness communities and residents simply looking for an enjoyable way to become more active. Organizers are also encouraging families and friends to attend together and explore the health and wellness resources available during the event. The gathering reflects a broader emphasis on recreation, wellness and accessible community programming taking place across Detroit. (Detroit City Government)
The event is free and scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lasky Recreation Center in Detroit. Residents interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance through the event organizers. Attendees can participate in as much or as little of the programming as they choose. The event’s message is simple: get moving, connect with the community and make wellness part of everyday life.
