Courtesy Photo-Logan Taylor, author of In My Eyes: Searching for Self-Worth, is rewriting her narrative, and inviting others to do the same. A mother, survivor, and storyteller, she’s turning pain into purpose one page at a time.
Logan Taylor is not just writing a book, she’s writing her way free. A single mother of two, survivor of chronic illness, and now first-time author, Logan’s new memoir In My Eyes: Searching for Self-Worth is a healing anthem. More than a memoir, it’s a mirror. A movement. A declaration that no matter how dark it gets, you can still become something beautiful.
“I want people to understand, it doesn’t matter what you’ve been through,” Logan told The Chronicle. “I was abused. I dropped out of high school. I battled chronic illness. But I’m still here. Still successful. And I finally have something to show for it.”
The Fast That Birthed a Book
The birth of In My Eyes came during a 75-day fast, no alcohol, no sugar, no Red Bulls. Just water, prayer, and clarity.
“They say prayer is when you talk to God. But meditation? That’s when He talks back,” Logan shared. “In those quiet moments, I heard Him say: Write.”
And so she did.
Within five days, the foundation of In My Eyes poured out of her. Within a week, it was complete. She almost didn’t attend the Author's Expo & Book Fair (Part of the SouthSide Festival Series) hosted by longtime mentor, Hakim Crampton. This is where her creative path would expand, but something told her to go. There, she met Chronicle Publisher Yanice Jackson, whose unconventional books combine narrative with photos, legacy, and scrapbook-style vulnerability. She also met other authors and had a chance to reconnect with her mentor Hakim.
“Your whole energy was different,” Logan said of Yanice. “You didn’t just talk about helping me—you actually helped. And something clicked.”
She left that expo, went straight to Applebee’s, and celebrated the beginning of a new chapter, literally.
A Life Rewritten
Diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis in 2016, Logan has been navigating invisible illnesses for years. Fatigue, swelling, chronic pain, and a condition called “malaise”, a heavy, inexplicable exhaustion, have marked her days.

“Even after eight hours of sleep, I wake up exhausted,” she said. “But people don’t see that. They see the smile, the makeup. They don’t see the war happening inside my body.”
Despite it all, she graduated college and landed a position at one of the top IT firms in the country. But corporate America didn’t feel like a place built for her.
“There was no one who looked like me. I was young, biracial, chronically ill, and no one understood that.”
Writing became her release. Her healing began with a letter to her father, a piece she’s never shared, but that unlocked something in her spirit. From there, her story began to write itself.
From Story to Strategy
Logan didn’t stop with a manuscript. With help from mentor Hakim, she activated her dormant LLC, Learning With Logan, and began building a business.
Now she’s launching a small press that will help others, especially children and parents tell their stories too. She’s already planning a community-based storytelling program called Share Your Story, along with branded merchandise and consulting services.
“I want parents to come to me and say, ‘My daughter wants to write a book,’ and I’ll show them how.”
She also wants to bring back something she calls Daughters of Promise, a mentorship model rooted in community and self-worth.
“Our kids don’t love themselves. Our boys are picking up guns instead of purpose. I want to change that.”
Faith, Fire, and Forward Motion
Logan’s faith has been the engine of her evolution.
“When I stopped drinking, stopped partying, stopped holding onto people who drained me, everything changed. God’s voice didn’t go quiet. I had just been too foggy to hear Him.”
She’s experienced success already. Book pre-sales are pouring in. Support is growing. But Logan remains grounded and focused.
“If I die tomorrow, my kids will have something to remember me by. These are my words. This is my story. And I’m proud of that.”
More than proud, she’s present. She’s fully here, stepping into her purpose with clarity, courage, and a calling to lift others as she rises.
“You are not your trauma. You are not your mistakes. You are not broken. You are becoming.”
From underdog to author. From pain to publishing. From fast to flame. Logan Taylor isn’t just telling her story, she’s building a table where others can heal, feast, and rise too.
