Investing in People, Not Just ProgramsWhy Support Lansing Community Catalyst?

The Community Catalyst was founded in 2017 by Yanice Carter with a clear mission: to create measurable, community-led change by building bridges between residents, organizations, and local leadership. What began as a grassroots effort in Lansing has evolved into a growing movement centered on collaboration, empowerment, and opportunity.

At its core, The Community Catalyst exists to help people move beyond survival mode by connecting them with the resources, education, skills, and support needed to create lasting change in their lives and communities. While we are proud to assist families facing immediate challenges, our mission extends far beyond charity. We believe true empowerment happens when people gain the knowledge, confidence, and tools necessary to build a better future for themselves and future generations.

Our work focuses on three key areas:

Education & Creative DevelopmentThrough multimedia workshops, journalism training, podcasting, storytelling, author development, filmmaking, and community media programs, participants gain valuable communication, leadership, and workforce skills while learning to share their own stories.

Literacy & Youth EmpowermentThrough initiatives such as Chronicle Kids, we create educational resources that allow children to see themselves reflected in stories of leadership, creativity, service, and success. What began as a coloring book project is evolving into a growing collection of workbooks, literacy activities, and learning tools designed to make education more engaging, relatable, and culturally relevant.

Community Health & Food JusticeWe work to address food insecurity through community-based solutions, nutrition education, food distributions, wellness initiatives, and partnerships that help strengthen healthier communities. Our goal is not simply to provide assistance, but to help create pathways toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

We also help develop future leaders through civic engagement, grassroots organizing, mentorship, advocacy, and community-building programs that encourage individuals to become active participants in shaping their neighborhoods and communities.

As the saying goes, we believe in teaching people how to fish—not simply giving them a fish.

Every donation helps create opportunities for learning, leadership development, literacy, creative expression, and community engagement. Every contribution helps a child discover a love of reading, a future journalist tell their first story, an aspiring filmmaker develop new skills, or a community member gain the confidence to become a leader.

When you support Lansing Community Catalyst, you are investing in people, potential, and possibility. Together, we are building stronger communities through education, empowerment, collaboration, and action. To learn more about the Community Catalyst visit www.lansingcatalyst.org
