Jackson County Partnership Targets Blight and Neighborhood Revitalization

JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. — A new partnership between Accelerate Jackson County and the Jackson County Land Bank Authority is aimed at speeding up neighborhood revitalization and returning vacant and tax-foreclosed properties to productive use. Under the agreement, Accelerate Jackson County will manage the day-to-day operations of the Land Bank Authority. The partnership is intended to add organizational capacity and economic-development expertise to the Land Bank’s existing work with vacant, abandoned and tax-foreclosed properties.
The Jackson County Land Bank Authority has long played a role in acquiring and repositioning problem properties. By combining that work with Accelerate Jackson County’s broader economic and community-development efforts, officials say the partnership could help move properties back into productive use more quickly while supporting neighborhood investment and local businesses.
The announcement comes as communities across Michigan continue to grapple with the effects of long-vacant properties, including declining property values, neighborhood instability and barriers to new housing or commercial development. The organizations say the new structure is intended to provide stronger coordination and strategic leadership as Jackson County works to address those challenges.
