Jackson Expands Online Options for City Bill Payments

JACKSON, Mich. — City of Jackson residents have a newer way to pay municipal bills online, with an upgraded payment portal designed to provide more payment options and stronger account security. The system, powered by BS&A Software, launched Jan. 7 and can be used for utility bills, Building Department payments, property taxes and miscellaneous city invoices. Residents can pay using major credit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Residents who previously used automatic payments were required to set up auto-pay again under the new system. Utility customers also use a four-digit PIN to access account-level information, including balances, billing history and payment activity.
Online payments carry processing fees. Credit and debit card tax payments are charged 2.8% plus 50 cents, while other card payments are charged 2.95% plus 50 cents. ACH and e-check fees vary based on the amount paid. In-person payment remains available at Jackson City Hall.
The city says residents experiencing issues with utility billing can contact the Utility Billing Office at 517-788-4082. Residents whose water service is already in danger of shutoff are advised to contact the office directly rather than relying on the online system.
