MidMEAC Invites MidMichigan Residents to “Our Nature” NEA Big Read Events

MidMichigan — Greater Lansing area residents are invited to a series of events celebrating our Great Lakes heritage. These events are free to attend.


NEA Big Read Community Events: “Our Nature”

In partnership with Arts Midwest, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Capital Area District Library (CADL), MidMEAC will host public events centered on:


 “Our Nature: How Our Physical Environment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope, Courage, and Connection.”


Join us for Creative Writing Workshops, Film Festival Entries, Staged Readings, and Tours

  • April 14 — Film Festival & Panel Discussion, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Exploring Joy as Resistance and Our Natural Connections, with Capital City Film Festival & Lansing Community College, Central United Methodist Church, 215 North Capitol Avenue, Lansing 

  • April 22–23 — Staged Reading - “Hurricane Diane”, presented by Peppermint Creek Theatre, 7:00 - 9:00 pm MSU Horticultural Gardens Conservatory 1066 Bogue St, East Lansing

  • April 28 — Poetry Writing Workshop, presented by Lansing Poet Laureate Ruelaine Stokes, 6:00 - 7:30 pm  Allen Neighborhood Center, 1611 E Kalamazoo St, Lansing

  • May 9 — America 250 Celebration at Montgomery Drain / Ranney Park: Public Readings, Environmental Walking Tour led by Ingham County Drain Commissioner Patrick E. Lindemann, thematic art workshop/competition, and more. Montgomery Drain, Ranney Park & Red Cedar Park

  • June 13 — Book Swap & Panel Discussion, presented by The Reading People, 1028 E Saginaw, Lansing

MidMEAC welcomes residents, schools, municipalities, and community partners to volunteer, partner, and support local projects that protect water, habitat, and natural resources in MidMichigan.
