Spare Time Lives On: High Caliber Karting Is Bringing Roller Skating Back to Okemos This November

A piece of Greater Lansing history is about to get new life on a roller skating rink.

High Caliber Karting and Entertainment in Okemos is opening a brand-new roller skating rink this November 2026, and there is a local twist that longtime residents will appreciate. The rink floor is being built from bowling lanes salvaged from the former Spare Time Entertainment Center in East Lansing, a beloved community destination that closed its doors in recent years.

For many families across the Greater Lansing area, Spare Time was a go-to spot for birthdays, team outings, and weekend fun. The decision to repurpose those lanes gives a familiar piece of the community a second life, this time beneath skates instead of bowling balls.

High Caliber President Julissa Munsters, who grew up roller skating at Ionia's Skateland, shared her excitement about the addition.

We're so excited to bring the nostalgia of roller skating and the vibe of High Caliber together for our guests.

The new rink will join an already robust lineup at the 1982 W. Grand River Ave. location, which includes go-kart racing, drift karting, an arcade, axe throwing, pocket soccer, battlefield activities, rage rooms, and food and drink service. High Caliber also hosts large group experiences for corporate events, birthday parties, and family reunions.

The rink is timed to open ahead of the holiday season, positioning it as a fresh option for families looking to celebrate together. The exact opening date, hours, and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
