The Chronicle News | Candidate Profile Election 2026

LANSING, Mich. — Ty Liggons is seeking reelection to the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education, bringing the perspectives of a district alumnus, parent and current board member to his campaign. His priorities include strengthening student safety, supporting teachers and staff, and expanding opportunities that prepare young people for success beyond the classroom. Liggons says his experience as both a former Waverly student and a parent has shaped his understanding of the district’s needs. As voters prepare for the November 3 general election, he is asking for the opportunity to continue serving the school community.
A 2003 Waverly graduate, Liggons has maintained ties to the district throughout his adult life. He was appointed to the Board of Education in February 2024 and subsequently won election in November 2024 to complete a two-year term. His educational background includes studies at Central Michigan University, Siena Heights University and Lansing Community College, where he earned degrees. He identifies his connection to the district as an important part of his approach to school board leadership.
Professionally, Liggons serves as a workforce coordinator for the State of Michigan, bringing experience in employment development and career preparation to his role in education governance. He describes more than a decade of work involving workforce development, youth programming and initiatives designed to connect students with future employment opportunities. That background informs his interest in ensuring students have access to educational experiences that prepare them for college, technical training and the workforce. His campaign emphasizes the importance of connecting classroom learning with practical opportunities that can benefit students after graduation.
Priorities for Students, Educators and Families
Liggons identified student safety and mental health as central priorities for the district. He also emphasized supporting and retaining qualified teachers and staff, recognizing their role in providing a consistent learning environment. His third priority focuses on responsible district spending while maintaining opportunities in classroom instruction, the arts and career preparation. These objectives represent his stated goals for continued board service rather than independently verified accomplishments.
Liggons says collaboration among students, parents, educators, administrators and board members is essential to strengthening the district. He hopes to continue building relationships that encourage communication, trust and shared responsibility for student success. His campaign presents educational opportunity, fiscal responsibility and school safety as interconnected elements of effective district governance. Waverly Community Schools voters will have an opportunity to consider his experience and priorities when casting their ballots in the November 3 election.
