Ashley Prew Campaign Offers Free Probate Court and Legal Planning Education Across Genesee County

Genesee County, Michigan – With a passion for service and giving back to her community, Attorney Ashley Prew decided in early 2026 to use her decade of probate law experience and her candidacy for Genesee County Probate Judge as an opportunity to bring awareness to county residents about the probate court, what it is, what it does, and what steps people can take to avoid probate court proceedings.
Ashley’s inspiration to use her candidacy as an educational opportunity for the community was her mother. Ashley’s mother, Donna, a retired public school teacher, taught Ashley the importance of serving in her community and the value of sharing knowledge through teaching.
In 2019, Ashley became her mother’s caregiver when she faced a debilitating illness. In January of this year, unrelated to her prior illness, Ashley’s mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and unfortunately left us in April, 2026. Even after her cancer diagnosis, Ashley’s mother encouraged her to continue her campaign and they developed the idea for Ashley to use the campaign to give back to the community together.
“Probate court is an often overlooked legal system that individuals find themselves in. It is not a court of crime and punishment, it is a court that impacts people because they are faced with a debilitating illness or the death of a family member,” said Ashley Prew. “Helping people understand what probate is, how it can potentially be avoided, and what resources are available to help navigate the process during some of life’s most difficult moments has been an especially meaningful way for me to honor my mother’s legacy.”
The workshops have been hosted in collaboration with Genesee County senior centers and non-profit organizations. The two final workshops will be hosted as follows:
Thursday October 15 at 12:00 p.m. hosted by the City of Flint’s Office of Public Health at the Mays Senior and Community Center. Lunch will be provided.
Saturday October 24 at 12:00 p.m. at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library presented by the What’s Up Downtown Flint Project and Cherokee Davis.
The workshops are open to the public. Seniors, caregivers, and families are especially encouraged to attend. The sessions are for educational purposes only and are not legal advice or representation. The collaborating organizations and locations do not endorse political candidates.
