LANSING, Mich. — Michigan mail-ballot returns were running ahead of the comparable point in the 2022 general election as of Oct. 6, according to the Michigan Department of State.

The department reported that 2,047,983 voters had requested a mail ballot for the 2026 general election and that 201,909 ballots had been returned as of 7 a.m. Oct. 6. State officials said the return total was about 30% higher than at the comparable point in 2022.

The Michigan Voting Dashboard is being updated daily with county and municipal mail-ballot and early-voting data through the Monday before Election Day.

Key voting dates

Statewide early-voting sites open Saturday, Oct. 24, and must operate for at least eight hours each day through Sunday, Nov. 1. Some communities may offer additional early-voting days.

Mail ballots must be received by the voter’s local clerk or placed in the voter’s assigned ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted, according to the Department of State.

Voters can check registration, ballot status, polling locations and early-voting information through Michigan’s official voter-information resources at Michigan.gov/Vote.
