There are families. And then there are institutions disguised as families.

The Lucas-Perry family is one of those rare examples where love did not simply endure, it multiplied. Into purpose. Into profession. Into leadership. Into impact. At the center of that legacy stand Lavel and Dr. Patricia Lucas-Perry, whose 43-year marriage became the foundation for something far greater than professional success. Together, they built a family culture rooted in excellence, discipline, education, service, and faith.

From that union came five remarkable children:

• Dr. Victoria Lucas-Perry, DDS

• Dr. Evelyn Cheek, DDS, MPH

• Dr. Patrick Lucas-Perry, DDS

• Lavel Lucas-Perry, RDH

• Crystal Lucas-Perry, actress, educator, therapist, and creative leader

Inspired by the example of their mother, Dr. Patricia Lucas-Perry, four of the family’s five children pursued careers in dentistry and healthcare. Today, members of the Lucas-Perry family collectively help lead and operate more than a dozen dental practices throughout Michigan, providing care to thousands of patients while continuing a tradition of service that spans generations. But the Lucas-Perry story is about more than dentistry. It is about what happens when excellence is modeled at home. It is about parents who invested not only in careers, but in character. It is about creating a culture where achievement is expected, service is valued, and success is measured by the lives you impact.

Among the family’s many accomplishments is Crystal Lucas-Perry, whose career has taken a different path while reflecting the same values. A nationally recognized actress, educator, therapist, and creative leader, Crystal has built a distinguished career in the arts while remaining committed to healing, storytelling, and empowering others through her work.

Her inclusion in the Chronicle Kids Coloring Book helps introduce young readers to careers in the arts and demonstrates that success can be achieved through many different paths.

Together, the Lucas-Perry family represents the very best of what community leadership can look like. Through healthcare, education, business, the arts, mentorship, and philanthropy, they continue to open doors for others while building upon the foundation established by their parents more than four decades ago. Their support of The Chronicle Kids Coloring Book and The Chronicle News 40th Anniversary Legacy Gala reflects a shared belief in representation, opportunity, and investing in future generations.

As The Chronicle News celebrates 40 years of community storytelling, the Lucas-Perry family stands as a powerful example of the values that have shaped our publication since 1986: leadership, service, education, perseverance, and love. Not every love story builds a dynasty.

This one did.
