Angel Taylor: Empowering Youth Through Literacy, Leadership and Service

For Angel Taylor, investing in young people is more than a calling, it is a lifelong commitment to building stronger families and communities through education, mentorship, and service.

As the leader of the Reading Readiness Summer Camp hosted at Christ’s Kingdom Builders Church and Community Center, Taylor works to create meaningful opportunities for youth to learn, grow, and discover their potential. The free summer program provides academic enrichment, cultural education, creative expression, and character development for children and teens throughout the Lansing community.

The camp offers a well-rounded experience that includes reading, mathematics, history, culture, arts and creativity, computer safety, African drumming, etiquette, choir, dance, physical education, problem-solving, and community service. Through these activities, participants gain both academic skills and valuable life lessons that help prepare them for future success.

Taylor’s commitment to youth development extends beyond the classroom. She believes literacy, cultural awareness, and positive mentorship are essential tools for helping young people build confidence and achieve their goals. Her work has touched the lives of countless families while providing safe, enriching experiences for children during the summer months.

That same dedication to education and representation is reflected in The Chronicle Publishing Company’s new community coloring book, I Know I Can: Real People. Real Careers. Real Possibilities. Members of the Taylor family are featured in the publication, helping introduce young readers to local leaders and community members who are making a difference through service and advocacy. The coloring book encourages literacy, self-esteem, and career exploration while celebrating positive role models from across the region.

Guests attending The Chronicle News 40th Anniversary Legacy Gala will have the opportunity to meet Angel Taylor as one of the event’s featured vendors. She will share information about the Reading Readiness Summer Camp, volunteer opportunities, and ways families can become involved in programs that support youth development and community engagement.

As The Chronicle News celebrates four decades of community storytelling, Angel Taylor’s work serves as a reminder that lasting change often begins with investing in the next generation. Through literacy, mentorship, and service, she continues to help young people discover the power of education, leadership, and believing in themselves.
