In Michigan, 1,299,020 people are facing hunger - and of them 305,190 are children. 1 in 8 people face hunger. 1 in 7 children face hunger. (www.feedingamerica.org) Despite this fact many are not aware of the food disparities that exist in our own communities.

Hunger is a silent predator which we need to be prepared and equipped to fight. In response to helping meet the basic needs of the Lansing community, The Lansing Catalyst partnered with Men Making a Difference (M.M.A.D.), Church of Elohim and The Chronicle News, for a holiday food and essential Items distribution drive through. This event took place on December 19th, 2021, in South Lansing.

During the distribution, over one-hundred men and women’s hygiene kits were handed out as cars wrapped around the parking lot in line. These hygiene kits included socks, soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors. More than four-hundred food bags with various meats, sides, and nonperishables were loaded into the cars in line. They also received umbrellas, winter hats, baby items and more. With the help of community partners, sponsors and volunteers, the orgs were able to give a gift to the community of Lansing.

We would like to give a special shout out to all of our volunteers and community partners. Also, special thank you to our sponsors Comcast, Young Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC, and Okemos Meijer and 1910 Food Market for helping make this possible.
