Shirley M. Carter-Powell Featured in Upcoming “I Know I Can” Chronicle Kids Community Coloring Book

Shirley M. Carter-Powell has spent decades turning survival into service. As the Founder and President of Against All Odds Foundation, Shirley is a two-time cancer survivor who has dedicated her life to supporting other survivors, cancer patients, families, and underserved community members in their time of need.

Through advocacy, encouragement, basic-needs support, survivor outreach, and the Bobbie Jackson Scholarship Fund, Shirley continues to stand in the gap for people facing some of life’s hardest battles.

Now, her story and community impact will be honored in the upcoming “I Know I Can: A Chronicle Kids Community Coloring Book,” created by The Chronicle News and Chronicle Publishing Co. to help children see real people from their own community represented in meaningful careers, leadership roles, and acts of service.

Her featured page, titled “I Know I Can Be a Community Advocate,” teaches children that advocacy means caring about others, speaking up, listening, helping people find support, and bringing hope to the community.

The Chronicle Kids Community Coloring Book will officially launch during The Chronicle News 40th Anniversary Legacy Gala on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Lansing Community College.

Copies of the book will be available during the event and through Chronicle Publishing Co.

Guests can use coupon code LEGACY25 for special discounted event tickets and selected promotional offers connected to the launch.
